    1. This is a fun story that takes the reader in a lot of different directions The story begins with a Lakota elder Hazel and her granddaughter Stella finding a white turkey on their property For the Lakota, a white turkey is considered to either be sacred or a good omen, and suddenly many of the townsfolk begin showing up to look at the white turkey Hazel refuses to believe that the turkey is special, suggests that it must belong to someone, and puts an ad in the local paper No one claims the turke [...]

    2. I enjoyed reading this book It was a quick read I enjoyed getting to know the protagonists I expected a bit focus on the native american culture, but enjoyed what was contained in the book.

    3. oh, had a review, but it was eaten so to sum up, read this book only if you are interested in some inside or fairly first hand info about Lakotas in late 20th cent but it is a pretty poor entry into the u of nebraksa flyover fiction series

    4. Washburn s novel has the sort of light touch that comes from the author s first hand experience with Lakota culture She doesn t seem to feel the need to explain Native culture, she simply weaves it matter of factly into her characters and their story.

    5. Belief is like that, a circle, and often I find that the seemingly simplistic explanations from childhood for the unexplainable have merit, maybe so than all the educated and contrived answers of adulthood.

    6. An interesting story and vivid description of South Dakota tribal lands and lifestyle, but I was left wanting something The ending was a bit odd
