    1. This is the best field guide to birds that I have yet encountered It covers all of the species found in Europe effectively than any field guide covers North American birds While the focus is on Europe, this guide could be useful for North American birders, especially ones living on the East Coast.

    2. Just as with a dictionary, it s hard to finish a field guide I haven t had a chance to use Birds of Europe much yet, but I m very pleased with the ease of use, information and general presentation that I ve seen so far There is a color plate opposite each page of text, much easier to use than the guides that concentrate the color plates in one section The little range maps for each species are very helpful There is a wealth of information in the Introduction on Taxonomy and Terminology and Symbo [...]

    3. Probably my bible The best bird book I ve ever come across Great art work and descriptions I enjoy how some drawings show two similar birds together to illustrate the differences between the two species gulls, godwits stuff like in the field.

    5. I keep getting remarks from fellow ornitho geeks how good the illustrations are in this guide compared to theirs The content is indeed brilliant amazing illustrations and very good text This is a good candidate for the best field guide covering Europe A bit on the bulky side for a field guide because the paper used is top quality It s thick and it s somewhat water repellent to a reasonable degree I got surprised by a rain at one time and had it soaked, but it dried admirably with no loss except [...]

    6. Lovely, accurate illustrations, with range maps appearing on the adjacent page with the pictures The text is there too rather than separated from the plates, which likely encouraged the text descriptions to be concise Nice to see small illustrations of similar species in their respective preferred habitats Some of the field mark notes are amusing, such as owl expressions and several instances of an enthusiastic unmistakable

    7. Estremamente chiaro e dettagliato Troppe volte mi sono chiesto chiss che diavolo di uccello quello , questo libro ha iniziato a fornirmi risposte

    8. Most definitely the best and most coveted European bird guide on the market Beautiful and detailed illustrations throughout, accompanied by identification tips and general voice location identification information They are also very nicely laid out, allowing you to compare birds with similar species This book is practically the bible for birdwatchers I would recommend this guide to almost any birder However it may be daunting for beginners especially with the illustrations of warblers that all l [...]

    9. A useful and complete identification guide aimed at amateurs and professionals alike The illustrations are accurate and easy to refer to and show the variations in colouring between males, females and juveniles The explainations and advice given in the introduction is particularly useful for beginners and is a useful reminder to experienced ornithologists My only critique is the size of the book as it makes it a little awkward and heavy for a day out in the field admittedly this can t really be [...]

    10. This is really an excellent Field Guide I was a fan of the Peterson s guides for American birds but I gave a try to the Svensson for my stay in Europe and I was amazed by the book There is a lot of drawings, which is very helpful to identify birds, and also a nice introduction at the beginnig There s also a lot of descriptions, the cost of that being the small size of the text Yay I just received it lots of fun for tonight

    11. This large, hardcover book is hardly a field guide in the traditional sense, at least you wouldn t want to port it into the field for any long distances However, this book is truly fantastic The species accounts, range maps, and most of all, the color illustrations are truly superb In my opinion, this is THE BEST reference manual for European birding.

    12. I highly recommend using Lars Svensson s field guide when birding in Europe I found it to be extremely informative and helpful while birding in disparate places such as Texel Island in the Netherlands and Rome, Italy It is an excellent all round field guide.

    13. Best bird guide on the market Very complete and very comprehensive Lot of useful information that help to identify the birds and the drawings inside are much life like than some other bird guides It is maybe a bit heavy to bring along in the field, but it is definitely worth it.

    14. If there is one book no self respecting UK or European birdwatcher should be without, it s Collins Bird Guide.

    15. A great book for the kids and me to read about the regular visitors to our garden but also the uncommon birds who visit infrequently or only in winter.Great pictures and little maps showing where the birds are likely to show up either as a resident or visitor.

    16. This product of years of relentless research is probably the definitive book on birds Perfect for thorough scrutiny or just for a quick reference.

    17. The best bird field guide out there not just among European guides, but among any bird guides anywhere.

    18. I m not sure how appropriate it is to say I ve read this field guide But I suppose I ll add a longer review when I return from Iceland.
