    1. ConfusingI ve done some study of WWI and following the action in this book was confusing without any maps Many units were referred to by unit number without reference to which side they were on.

    2. Rushing in from Mons and rushing out towards the Christmas truce, the unit studded war of movement rolls over 150 pages and oversized maps, catching its breath occasionally to deliver meagre biographical info on the High Command In wanting to do too much, it has aged terribly.

    3. Coverage of the 1st battle of Ypres and how the small professional British army was decimated against overwhelming odds of 7 to 1 by the Germans following the Schleiffen plan.

    4. Interesting factual account of some of the first major battles of World War One The writer knows his subject but can get a little tedious in places.
