    1. When the Sun Shines on Antarctica is a wonderful children s poetry book that features poems, profiles, and illustrations of the animals of Antarctica My favorite thing about this book is that the informative factual profiles of each animal is on the same page as their respective poem and illustration In addition to this, When the Sun Shines on Antarctica includes a glossary of new words that students can add to their growing vocabularies.

    2. I liked this book I thought that it was a wonderful collection of books What i really enjoyed were the illustrations This book could be used to discuss the environment and differences of animals that live in constant cold versus ones that don t.

    3. I chose to read this book because of penguins on the cover, and the topic in poems I was disappointed in the quality of the poetry, and the layout of the book It didn t flow easily for me to share beautiful language describing Antarctica, nor did it flow in an inviting way to read details and information about the continent This was a disappointment and I will not be adding it to my school collection.

    5. You may remember this writer illustrator pair published Dear Wandering Wildebeest And Other Poems from the Water Hole in 2014 They re back, and have created another beautiful book of poetry and illustrations for a non fiction topic I loved this look at the summer of Antarctica, when the sky peels itself of darkness and stretches awake From October to March, the sun never sets, and although the temperature is still below freezing, this is the chance for animals to feed and breed Each poem s page [...]

    6. How fitting that this book showed up at my doorstep on a snow day Even the cold temperatures of Ohio, though, can t compete with Antarctica s frigid winters This book, however, highlights its summer a time October to March when the sun never sets Irene Latham s playful and descriptive poetry and interesting informational paragraphs are accompanied by Anna Wadham s soft and captivating illustrations of the flora and animals that thrive in Antarctic summers The adaptations of animals and plants th [...]

    7. Review copy provided by NetgalleyFans of Joyce Sidman and April Pulley Sayre are sure to love this poetry collection with accompanying nonfiction material It s a well written collection, though I d be the first to admit that I m not the best judge of the quality of poetry Antarctic animals are the focus add you might assume and the book is worthwhile even if you based your decision solely on the nonfiction material included with each poem.Though I don t know the work of Irene Latham outside of t [...]

    8. 33 pgs This is a great collection of poems with soft illustrations and fact boxes The pages look layered with texture and brushed over with paint It has very interesting poems as well as facts I learned a lot about this region and its wildlife I was glad to see poems and facts on the petrel, flora of region, Weddell, krill, brinicle and midge What lovely poems I especially loved the last poem called Iceberg s Farewell to Summer This book should be considered for an award Great glossary and furth [...]

    9. This is a great selection of poetry in varying styles describing the flora and fauna of Antarctica in the summer The various poems give a vivid description of some aspect of the animal behaviour whether it is dealing with mating, food or family After the poem, there is a description of the animal, plant or subject of the poem The illustrations are vivid watercolour type images that mesh well with the poetry It gives a fun, easily read opportunity to learn about Antarctica.I received a copy of th [...]

    10. Irene Latham s poetry is like that gift from your favorite aunt You don t know what you re going to get, but you know you re going to love it WHEN THE SUN SHINES ON ANTARCTICA is a joy from the opening poem to the last word Who d have thought that cold and dull Antarctica was so full of surprises Highly recommend this book of poetry to delight and awe preschoolers through primary grade kids

    11. Concise, playful poems about life on Antarctica are perfectly complimented by whimsical illustrations Fascinating facts about Antarctica s flora, fauna and landscape accompany each poem From battling bull elephant seals to brinicles underwater icicles , there s something to catch every reader s interest.

    12. What a wonderful poetry collection Each poem is spare and lush at the same time, probably a lot like Antarctica, if you look at it closely The prose sidebars gave me lots of cool info, and the poems themselves took me right into the heart of summer at the bottom of the world Gorgeous illustrations explore the palette of Antarctica and show that it s anything but just a world of white.

    13. Combo poetry and NF for the summertime in Antarctica Love the endpages and soft illustrations Nice layout with poem on one side and info sidebar on other side Lots of penguins Learned a lot about this continent.

    14. 4.5Poems about antarctic life accompany an illustrated depiction of the poem Opposite each short poem is a small paragraph with in dept facts and information.A really winning combination, knocked down a half point because the illustrations are good, but not great.

    15. Each poem about Antarctic life is accompanied by a paragraph of fact and an illustration that captures the frozen landscape This is a worthy collection that blends beautifully illustration, poem, and fact.

    16. I learned so much reading tis book and can read it again and again.Who knew Antarctica had insects Or so many different species The factoids that go with the poems are just icicles on glaciers

    17. Creative poetry combined with fascinating facts and captivating illustrations makes this a must read for those who love animals, especially those animals that live far away in Antarctica.

    18. A lovely selection of poems and facts about the animal life and some plants that make up the Antartctic Each two page spread includes the poems and a box with notes.

    19. Science poetry with gorgeous, adorable art Biology and language interact beautifully and playfully in this picture book I thoroughly enjoyed my brief Antarctic summer.

    20. Collection of 15 poems about the landscape and various life forms in Antarctica Each poem, through the use of imagery and figurative language, acts as an inviting introduction to its topic Each poem is accompanied by fascinating facts about the topic The illustrations, simplistic and childlike, however, left me wanting I would have preferred photography as a means for further illustrating each topic that is covered A table of contents, glossary, and a list of resources for further reading are a [...]
