Plato s Republic is a miserable text.I guess someone must enjoy reading this since it s hung around as an important philosophical text for thousands of years, but I m not that person It s not so much that Plato s a bore his philosophical works can actually be pretty entertaining but reading book after book of Socrates being a miserable little shit gets tiresome after, saye third book He may be one of the most annoying people in the ancient world, and once you read the tireless tirades about how [...]

    2. How to live your life according to a dead guy who lived ages and ages ago Still relevant today Yes, surprisingly so Am I compelled to believe it and follow it like dogma No, but it does give you something to think about.

    3. Lots of interesting shit, but it can get dry even with Plato s bitchin attitude I read this for a philosophy class, and I m glad it was assigned.

    4. The Socratic method seems to be less about exploration of ideas and about Socrates baseless assumptions being accepted without question But it appeals to the nerd that got bullied within me so I guess it s ok.The translation was excellent and very accessible, without altering the core of Socrates arguments.
