    1. Edit A film adaptation of this recently won Best Film at the Swiss Film Awards and is getting some very good buzz it ll be hitting arthouse cinemas in the English speaking world under the title I Am The Keeper soon So if you want to do the hipster thing and read the book first you should This is one of the most incredible feats of translation I ve seen for years Lenz s novel utterly depends for its effect on a rich, idiomatic, and inherently local narrative voice, and Donal McLaughlin has achiev [...]

    3. Okay, I only bought this book because I wanted to practice my Swiss German I had absolutely no expectations, as although Swiss people have many qualities, being artistic and creative is definitely not one of them I was so wrong Well it took me about 3 days to read the first two pages of the book it was really a challenge for me to understand the Bernese Deutsch dialect in which it was written But once I got the hang of it, and realized that l turns to u and bin is sometimes sig sometimes bi , Sc [...]

    5. Here s my review from The List Inspired by a six month residency in Glasgow, Swiss writer Pedro Lenz wrote this short, sharp novel in his native language now it arrives in a remarkable translation into Glaswegian dialect by Donal McLaughlin As the title ironically implies, it s all about the voice and what a voice it is Our narrator is Goalie, a recovering drug addict, fresh out of prison and keen to settle down, perhaps with that local barmaid he quite fancies Goalie is a teller of stories beca [...]

    6. A fantastic short novel, ostensibly about the aftermath of a drug deal but the plot is secondary to the compulsive and often bizarre stories and experiences of the narrator, Goalie, as he tries, not too hard, to put his life in order following a year in jail A vivid and exciting voice translated into Scots Someone should make this into a film.
