    1. Really enjoyed these stories Particularly the title story What Remains , The New Life and Opinions Of A Tomcat and A Little Outing To H.

    2. This book has been criticised as Wolf s attempt to show that she too was a victim rather than a beneficiary of the old East German SED regime There are stories that she was an informer I don t know may be true After all I was reported on by two friends there who still remain good friends today.Anyway, it remains a powerful and at times terrifyingly depressing book As difficult to read as many of her others with her innovative and inventive use of the German language, but somehow darker as the co [...]

    5. Maybe I m just over saturated with GDR DDR topics, especially those having to do with the overwhelming prevalence of surveillance within the country, having just read Stasiland so recently, but I didn t like Was Bleibt as much as I think I ought to have Wolf is alleged to have been an informer herself, but given the sheer volume of collaborators within East Germany one for about every 60 residents that s neither as much of a shocker nor a smear as it could be Wolf does a good job of capturing th [...]

    6. This was too advanced for me but I feel like I would have liked it if I understood it I had to constantly refer to the dictionary and the stream of consciousness style hindered my comprehension further I understood and felt the paranoia behind the constant monitoring, and I appreciated that there was a huge focus on language and what language meant to the narrator There were a lot of intricacies here that went over my head maybe they ll be cleared up in German class and I often confused the cha [...]

    7. This book was very interesting It was really tough for me to get through initially because I had no idea what was going on Once I found out about Christina Wolf and the premise of the book, it started to get better There were many interesting aspects I would love to read it again someday when I can take time to read it, instead of just reading it for school.

    10. difficult story dealing with a difficult issues faced by Germans after the Unification takeover of 1991I think that if it wasn t for the fact that I needed to read it for my PhD I probably wouldn t even consider it But I m very glad I did

    11. It s hard to feel sympathy for a woman being watched when she informed on other people, but it s still an interesting look at Cold War East Germany.

    12. Most highly recommended Wolf at her best Describing life under constant Stasi surveillance and what it did to her.
