My Uncle Lyndel, of blessed memory, used to tease us kids by telling us that if we took pinecones Louisiana has TONS of pines and buried them, we would get chickens the adults laughed at us In this story, the farmer and his wife have no cow and want their hens to provide milk Impossible As possible as growing chickens out of pinecones I love the story and the Chagall esque illustrations It seems that is an overabundance of illustrators who are Chagall inspired.

    6. PreS grade 2This book is HILARIOUS The reader will enjoy knowing the answer to the problems before the characters in the story figure it out This is perfect for storytime Kind of a noodlehead story, though it appears to be an original, as the father from Chelm in this story tries to get milk from hens The logic is of course, illogical, and kids will love being in on the joke I can t wait to try this in storytime and see how it works.

    7. This is an entertaining folktale about a silly family who think that their hens can give milk It is a fun book to read aloud and the illustrations are colorful and comical I love the cultural background of the story and the fact that the little girl is pretty wise We enjoyed reading this book together and have read it a couple of times.
